How does ActiveSMART work?

ActiveSMART
is not installed

If ActiveSMART is not installed on the user system,
the user doesn't receive the disks state information.
Any S.M.A.R.T. system warnings will be ignored

ActiveSMART
is installed

If ActiveSMART is installed, all information about the disk will be accepted and analyzed by the program.
The user will be notified about any potential disk emergency situations immediately

How does ActiveSMART protect my data?

Just as soon as the hard disk state changes, an S.M.A.R.T. system, integrated into the disk, notifies you about it. The disk condition may slowly decline; however, this might not show for a bit, while the disk is able to correct its own mistakes. That can go on for some time until, one day, the disk is not able to fix its mistakes and the data on the disk is no longer readable or recoverable.
All this time, while the disk condition was growing worse, the S.M.A.R.T. system has been notifying you about it. To obtain this information in time and save your data from an unexpected failure, simply install Active SMART. Installing Active SMART, you protect your data!

What is S.M.A.R.T. technology for hard drives?

S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) is implemented into all of the modern hard disks. A special program inside the disk constantly keeps tracking the condition of a range of the vital parameters: driver, disk heads, surface state, electronics, etc. At the present time, S.M.A.R.T. technology is able to predict up to 70% of all hard disk problems! However, to use this information, you firstly have to retrieve it from the disk and analyze it. This is one of the Active SMART program's tasks.
