Reallocation Event Count Attribute information
Attribute Name:
Reallocation Event Count
Attribute ID:
196
Description:
Count of hard drive internal remap operations (transferring data from a bad sector to a special reserved disk area - spare area).
The raw value of this attribute shows the total number of attempts to transfer data from reallocated sectors to a disk spare area. Unsuccessful attempts are counted as well as successful.
Critical:
Yes
Hard drives that support this attribute:
Samsung, Seagate, IBM (Hitachi), Fujitsu (not all models), Maxtor, WD (Western Digital) (not all models)
Software that supports this attribute:
ActiveSMART, by Ariolic Software
Download ActiveSMART and monitor S.M.A.R.T. attributes
The S.M.A.R.T. attributes are specific properties (parameters) of various parts of a hard drive. S.M.A.R.T. uses attributes to monitor the disk condition and to analyze its reliability (e.g.: the “Temperature” attribute indicates the temperature of the hard disk, the “Power-On Hours” attribute indicates the count of hours in a power-on state, etc.) Various manufacturers may use different sets of attributes.
Modern hard disks support a self-monitoring technology called S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology). This technology allows you to monitor the important parts of hard drives, warning you if their condition is getting worse and data loss is possible. However, in order to use this information, you will need special software which can collect and process it. Active SMART is intended for just this purpose.
Install Active SMART to protect your HDDs and the data stored on them.
